Lisbon on foot: a stroll between Estrela, São Bento and Praça das Flores

To discover Lisbon on foot, sometimes all you need is to go out without a packed itinerary. Starting from toctoctocLisboa, on Santo Amaro Street, this walk connects three places that give the neighborhood its character: the Estrela Garden, São Bento Street, and Praça das Flores.

The idea: take your time. Walk under the trees, admire the facades, stop in front of an antique shop window, then choose a terrace to extend your stroll. A route to savor on your first morning in Lisbon, or to find a more relaxed pace between two days of sightseeing.

  1. Lisbon on foot: starting at the Estrela Garden

From toctoctocLisboa, head towards the Estrela Garden by walking up Santo Amaro Street. Before continuing your stroll, take some time to wander its paths and find a bench in the shade. It's a perfect first stop to watch Lisbon go by, with a book in hand or simply without any plans.

Opposite the garden, the Estrela Basilica offers another perspective on the neighborhood. Cross over to admire its facade, then return to the streets that descend towards São Bento.

Our advice: save this stop for early morning and leave room for spontaneity. A successful walk in Lisbon is also measured by the time spent stopping.

  1. São Bento: take the time to look at the shop windows

After the garden, continue along Rua São Bento, known for its antique shops. Here, the stroll unfolds at the pace of the shop windows: antique furniture, decorative objects, and pieces that could easily find a place in another home. For those who enjoy browsing, it's best to set aside some time to step inside and take a closer look.

The neighborhood can also be discovered by looking up. The facades, balconies, and details of the buildings deserve just as much attention as the shops. Then continue on to Praça das Flores for a break in the shade of the trees.

  1. Praça das Flores: a pause under the trees

The walk continues to Praça das Flores. With its trees, benches, and surrounding terraces, this small square invites you to linger. Have a coffee, open your book, or simply spend a moment watching the passersby.

After the leafy paths of Jardim da Estrela and the shop windows of São Bento, end your stroll with a drink and a little time to spare.

To prolong this moment, return to toctoctocLisboa and rediscover the garden of the house.

Our team can also recommend a place to have lunch or a place for your next walk, depending on your preferences.
