Every place has a story, and ours begins with a knock — toctoctoc.
Before toctoctocLisboa became a boutique hotel nestled in the heart of Lisbon, it was a home. A home filled with dreams, warmth and the sound of everyday life. The owners lived on the top floor and lovingly decorated the space to reflect their own tastes and values. With each corner carefully designed for comfort and beauty, it wasn’t long before they realized this house could offer more than just a private sanctuary — it had the potential to become a haven for others, too.

What followed was a journey of transformation. Over the course of three full years, the house was almost completely rebuilt — only three and a half walls remained from the original structure. The roof was redone, the interiors redesigned and every inch of the building was reimagined.
The vision? To create a space that felt like home, while offering all the charm and detail of a boutique hotel.
In May 2021, the doors of toctoctocLisboa opened to the world. Since then, guests have been gently knocking — toctoctoc — and stepping into a place where simplicity meets soul.
A Passion for Atmosphere
The entire interior design and decoration were crafted by the owners themselves. Though not professional designers, they brought to life a warm, eclectic space that reflects their love for atmosphere, aesthetics and genuine hospitality. Every detail is intentional. From the cozy reading corners to handpicked décor, the hotel invites guests to slow down, explore and feel at home.
A Commitment to Sustainability
At toctoctocLisboa, beauty doesn’t come at the planet’s expense. Sustainability is woven into our philosophy and daily practices:
We use organic discs for makeup removal and handcrafted soaps.
Leftover soap is transformed into natural detergent.
Paper bags are reused as waste bins.
Humidity is reduced with two working fireplaces instead of electric heaters in winter.
We use only glass and isothermal bottles.
Plants are watered with the remaining water from guests’ rooms.
During half the year, our hot water is solar-heated.
These are just a few examples of how we care for the environment while creating a comfortable stay for our guests.
A Hotel with Soulful Details
toctoctocLisboa is filled with small touches that speak volumes. Each floor has its own library:
1st floor: History and classical French literature
2nd floor: Decoration and photography
3rd floor: Yoga, surf, and sailing
4th floor: Comic novels and art — with board games nearby for rainy days
Our Honesty Bar in the garden on the 2nd floor is a favorite retreat for many. Whether you're in the mood for a quiet read, a refreshing drink or a friendly chat with fellow travelers, the bar is always open — just help yourself to our selection of beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

Another beloved feature is our hand-curated map of Lisbon, created by our team after exploring the city corner to corner. It includes our absolute favorite rooftops, bars, restaurants, viewpoints, monuments, beach bars, and more — only the best for our guests.

Beyond the Stay
We want your experience to be seamless and memorable. That’s why we help our guests connect with trusted local services: from taxis, gyms and yoga classes to osteopaths and our laundry support.
And for those who want to take a piece of toctoctoc home, we offer a carefully selected collection of items that carry our identity: from our cozy blankets and duvet covers to candles, soaps, essential oils, shopper bags, t-shirts, dresses, and the beloved broas de mel (Portuguese honey cookies). One special item is the sparrow — found on every room keychain. In Portuguese culture, sparrows symbolize love, loyalty, home, and family — the very values we hold closest.

toctoctocLisboa: More Than Just a Stay
What began as a private residence is now a heartfelt, welcoming space where stories are exchanged, books are read, drinks are poured and memories are made. toctoctocLisboa is more than a boutique hotel — it’s a reflection of the values and vision of the people who created it.
So, next time you’re in Lisbon, gently knock — toctoctoc — and step into a space that feels like home.
